Hump Day Hottie: Tiffany Taylor

imageTiffany Taylor has a great thing going with a highly successful modeling career. And rightfully so, she’s stunning. But being hot for a living wasn’t her first career choice. Prior to taking up modeling she completed an undergraduate degree in criminal justice.

While we certainly appreciate justice as much as the next person, we’d be lying if we said we don’t praise the day she decided to put down the CSI textbooks and get in front of a camera lens instead.

At just $100, Apple TV is priced to sell this holiday season. And in a few weeks when a software update lets you stream video from your iPhone and iPod touch, it will be even more worthwhile.

NFL Computerized Power Rankings Week 4

NFL Power Rankings We enter week 4 with a lot of things shaking out and a few surprises. Who would have thought that Charlie Batch would be the savior at quarterback for the Steelers? The Steelers are 3-0 without Ben and everyone was just hoping for 2-2 and treading water. Then again, Who thought the Chiefs would even sniff the top ten this year? It is going to get harder for them the next few weeks, but they deserve credit for what they have done so far and more than half of the roster has less than 3 years experience. They will get good and they are going to be good for a long time when they do…. Complete Power Rankings on SportzNutz.com

image After the high-flying adventures of the first Iron Man picture, the billionaire arms manufacturer and irrepressible bon vivant Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) finds himself nursing a hangover. But not like any hangover he's had before: this one is toxic, a potentially deadly condition resulting from heavy metals (or something) bleeding out of the hardware he's installed in the middle of his chest. This is the problem Stark needs to solve in Iron Man 2, not to mention the threat from resentful Russian science whiz Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke), whose father helped create the Iron Man technology. There's an even bigger problem for the film: the need to set up a future Marvel Comics movie universe in which a variety of veteran characters will join forces, a requirement that slows down whatever through-line the movie can generate (although fanboys will have a good time digging the clues laid out here). Actually, the main plot is no great shakes: another Iron Man suit is deployed (Don Cheadle, replacing Terrence Howard from the first film, gets to climb inside), Stark continues to bicker with assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and a weaselly business rival (Sam Rockwell) tries to out-do the Iron Man suit with an army of Vanko-designed drones. Mickey Rourke is a letdown, burdened by a wobbly Russian accent and looking skeptical about the genre foolishness around him, and Scarlett Johansson has to wait until the final couple of reels to unleash some butt-kickin' skills as the future Black Widow. That climax is sufficiently lively, and the initial half-hour, including Stark's smirky appearance before a Senate committee and a wacky showdown at the Monaco Grand Prix, provides a strong, swift opening. But the lull between these high points is crying for more action and more Downey improv.

This weekend at the movies

Pete's Preview Sep 24 by Peter Veugelaers © 2010

You don't easily forget Michael Douglas as the consummate, charismatic and greedy Gordon Gekko from his Oscar winning performance in Wall Street. In that film, Charlie Sheen's hot shot broker character studied under the wing of Gekko how to succeed without a conscience in the finance world. Over 20 years later, in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Gekko's released from prison and it seems prison has been good to him. A young hot shot trader (Shia LaBeouf), who is married to Gekko's daughter (Carey Mulligan), sides with him to warn of the coming global economic collapse indicating a change of allegiance from consumed by money to actually caring. That might take the edge out of the Gekko we've seen in Wall Street, although money never sleeps.

Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps

Wall Street 2 Poster
Release Date: September 24, 2010
Studio: 20th Century Fox
Director: Oliver Stone
Screenwriter: Oliver Stone, Allan Loeb
Starring: Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeouf, Josh Brolin, Frank Langella, Carey Mulligan, Susan Sarandon, Vanessa Ferlito, Charlie Sheen
Genre: Drama
MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for brief strong language and thematic elements)
Official Website: WallStreetMoneyNeverSleeps.com

Shia LaBeouf stars with Michael Douglas, who'll reprise his Gordon Gekko role. Langella will play Lewis Zabel, an old-time broker who mentors LaBeouf's character, a young Wall Street broker.
When Gekko comes out of prison, he essentially has to redefine himself, redefine his character, he's looking for that second chance.
LaBeouf portrays Jake Moore, who is the fiancé of Gekko's daughter, played by Carey Mulligan; Josh Brolin as the head of an investment bank; and Susan Sarandon as Jake's mother. Charlie Sheen, who played the central role of Bud Fox, a young trader, in the original, will make a cameo in the sequel.

EN 5 Second Review:  Douglas is the movie. For nostalgia's sake it is a good movie. It falls down a bit when LaBouf is onscreen as comparisons to Douglas don't work for him. Overall a fun movie thanks to the performances of Douglas and Brolin.

NFL Computerized Game Predictor Week 3

NFL Computerized Game Predictor Week 3

Week 1 was insane week 2 just got crazier with the quarterback shuffles that have followed (about one-fourth of teams have a different quarterback under center than they did two weeks ago). Does Ryan Fitzpatrick even have a reputation? What rumors have you heard about Bruce Gradkowski?  That’s why we have to rely on the computer rather than trying to figure this out ourselves. It’s impossible at this point to keep up with who is the starting quarterback, much less who is going to cover. Oh well, week three is here and its time to get the NFL computerized predictor moving on up after last weeks 10-6 ATS record at 1/2 play we are sitting at +150.00 for the year… [Read More...]

Deal of the Day: The Wizard of Oz (70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray] $36.99

image

Buy The Wizard of Oz (70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray] for just $36.99

In this charming film based on the popular L.Frank Baum novel, Dorothy and her dog Toto are caught in a tornado's path and somehow end up in the land of Oz. Here she encounters some memorable friends and foes in her journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who everyone says can help her return home and possibly grant her new friends their goals of a brain, heart and courage.

Review:

When it was released during Hollywood's golden year of 1939, The Wizard of Oz didn't start out as the perennial classic it has since become. The film did respectable business, but it wasn't until its debut on television that this family favorite saw its popularity soar. And while Oz's TV broadcasts are now controlled by media mogul Ted Turner (who owns the rights), the advent of home video has made this lively musical a mainstay in the staple diet of great American films. Young Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland), her dog, Toto, and her three companions on the yellow brick road to Oz--the Tin Man (Jack Haley), the Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), and the Scarecrow (Ray Bolger)--have become pop-culture icons and central figures in the legacy of fantasy for children. As the Wicked Witch who covets Dorothy's enchanted ruby slippers, Margaret Hamilton has had the singular honor of scaring the wits out of children for more than six decades. The film's still as fresh, frightening, and funny as it was when first released. It may take some liberal detours from the original story by L. Frank Baum, but it's loyal to the Baum legacy while charting its own course as a spectacular film. Shot in glorious Technicolor, befitting its dynamic production design (Munchkinland alone is a psychedelic explosion of color and decor), The Wizard of Oz may not appeal to every taste as the years go by, but it's required viewing for kids of all ages
