In most cases, advertisements earn money for corporations. Rec.fm is a SXSW Web award finalist that is tipping the scales, so that profits also go to people in need. The new service uses product recommendations to raise money for nonprofits. Consumers select a favorite item, and the site posts a link to that product on their Facebook or Twitter. Each time a friend clicks on the link and purchases the product, money is donated to the user's charity of choice
