Pirate Radio

Written and directed by Richard Curtis, this British ensemble comedy is a valentine to rock ‘n’ roll as it existed around 1966. Although the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Who and other rock groups were enormously popular at that time, the music was seldom heard on regular radio stations in the UK. This led to the setting up of unlicensed radio stations aboard ships anchored in international waters and broadcasting rock all day and all night. The movie tells the fictionalized story of one such station, and the large cast includes Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Rhys
